Smart product labeling with RFID/NFC

The ESSERTEC case study shows how NFC technology can be successfully integrated into durable construction products - and what potential this technology also opens up for RATHGEBER products made from ROYALPLAST®.

The initial situation

ESSERTEC, manufacturer of skylight domes, flat roof windows and smoke and heat extraction systems, is equipping its products with NFC technology from smart-TEC. The aim is to make service, maintenance and refurbishment easier, more efficient and error-free.

Product-relevant information should be available directly on the product at all times - regardless of documents, databases or construction files.

The solution: NFC emblems and digital product information

The robust NFC emblems from smart-TEC are used in combination with the IDconnect software solution.
After reading with a smartphone or tablet, users are automatically taken to a mobile product page with all the relevant information.

Among other things:

• Assembly and installation instructions
• Instructions for use and warranty documents
• Article and order numbers
• Year of construction, glazing, nominal size
• Position on the roof and fall-through protection
• Installation videos for use on site

This makes repairs and renovations much easier: products can be clearly identified, suitable spare parts can be determined and ordered directly.

Robust, durable, clearly identifiable

The NFC emblems used are designed for long-term use under demanding conditions - such as heat, cold, moisture and mechanical and chemical stress.

Each emblem has a worldwide unique identification number that is permanently stored in the product. In addition to the NFC function, a QR code is integrated so that information can be accessed even without an NFC-enabled end device.

Transferable to RATHGEBER products made from ROYALPLAST®

This project is a very good example of the integration of NFC technology in high-quality plastic solutions - and therefore directly transferable to RATHGEBER products.
