Scientifically sound climate targets confirmed

03.06.2026
Our climate targets have been validated as 1.5°C-compliant by the Science Based Target initiative.

Our emission reduction targets have been validated as 1.5 °C-compliant by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This means they are scientifically sound, internationally recognized and clearly aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement.

The validation not only confirms the ambition of our targets, but also commits us to their consistent implementation.

What exactly does the SBTi classification mean?

The Science Based Targets initiative is regarded worldwide as a reference framework for Paris-compatible climate targets for companies. It is supported by WWF, WRI, CDP and the UN Global Compact, among others.

The 1.5 °C classification is currently the highest ambition level within the SBTi system, which was achieved by submitting short-term and net-zero targets including all scopes.
Crucial here: The SBTi assesses targets - not declarations of intent. The basis is recognized climate science and IPCC emission pathways, not voluntary self-disclosures. The SBTi ensures that the submitted corporate targets are science-based, complete and credible.

Classification from our perspective

The SBTi validation confirms the quality and ambition of our climate targets.
At the same time, it is not an end point, but a binding benchmark for the coming years to consistently and genuinely reduce our emissions. This influences investments, decisions and supply chains.

Why this is relevant for our customers

For many of our customers, the comparability and traceability of climate targets is becoming increasingly important - for example in the context of ESG assessments, CSRD or supplier assessments.
The SBTi validation creates a reliable, internationally recognized basis for this.
