Almost 1,400 people worldwide work for the film technology company, which was founded in Munich in 1917. The name ARRI is derived from the first two letters of the surnames of the company founders August Arnold and Robert Richter. "Our aim is to provide creatives with the best tools to help them realize their ideas," says Heiko Meyer, Corporate Communications Manager and Press Spokesperson at ARRI.
Experts agree: the company develops, produces, sells and rents out arguably the best camera systems and film lights money can buy. ARRI Rental equips film productions all over the world. In German-speaking countries, the Munich-based company also handles post-production for many feature films and series.
With its offerings for the film and TV industry, ARRI is quite successful, to put it mildly. A few examples: In the past five years, all of the cinematographers who have won the Oscar for "Best Cinematography" have shot with ARRI. In addition, all of the productions that have won "Best Feature Film" in recent years were shot with ARRI technology. In recognition of its innovative achievements for the film industry, the company itself has also been awarded 19 technology Oscars for its product developments. On the film sets of this world, things can be tough. Heat, snow, dust and rain - depending on the shoot, the ARRI cameras are out in the elements. Heiko Meyer reports on a material truck that went up in flames. At least the ARRI camera was salvaged from the inferno. The housing? Pretty scorched. But the sensor was still working perfectly.
The digital cameras and spotlights from ARRI have to be super robust. This also applies to the individual components. The requirement for every part: precise, stable and durable.
This is why the plates for many ARRI products come from RATHGEBER. "We are very satisfied with the products from RATHGEBER," ARRI's Heiko Meyer hears again and again from the specialist departments, accompanied by adjectives such as "high-quality, precise and local". This is because ARRI attaches great importance to regional partnerships. Quality and long-term cooperation are important. It is also crucial to have good contacts who can provide optimal advice on individual products. "At RATHGEBER, we meet absolute experts," he says confidently. After all, it's all about making good technology visible. From RATHGEBER, the film, lighting and production experts receive, among other things, the badges with the traditional ARRI logo for the new Orbiter LED spotlight, foil lettering for the L7-C LED light, various type plates for the state-of-the-art camera systems and lenses, a wide variety of test labels and special ARRI stickers for rental.
In the movie theater itself, interested observers often have to wait a while for ARRI's contribution to become visible not only through the image quality, but also in black and white. How do you recognize people who work at ARRI? "They always stay seated after the movie until the end of the credits and see if they can spot the ARRI logo or the names of colleagues," says Heiko Meyer and laughs. Often enough, they find them - at the latest when it's time for the Oscars again.
